Apokoronas staff receive first aid training from EKAV Crete
Staff and elected members of Apokoronas municipality took part in a first aid training day on April 27, 2026, delivered by a team of rescue workers and instructors from EKAV Crete — the national emergency medical service.
What the training covered
The session combined classroom instruction with hands-on practice. Topics included:
- CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation): techniques and practical drills
- Defibrillator use: operating an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Emergency response: managing acute medical incidents
- Wound care: safe handling of injuries
Trainers underlined that the first few minutes of a medical emergency can determine whether a person survives, and that a trained first responder on the spot can make a critical difference before professional help arrives.
Background
The municipality requested the training from EKAV Crete. According to the municipality, the session is designed as a starting point for further cooperation, with the longer-term aim of improving the overall emergency readiness of municipal staff.
