Apokoronas commissions study to set rules for its diving park

Apokoronas municipality is taking a concrete step toward establishing a properly managed underwater attraction along its coastline. The local authority is now looking for a qualified engineer to produce an official operational regulation for its planned diving park — a document that will define how the site is to be used, secured, and managed.

Why this matters

A diving park without a regulatory framework cannot operate in a legally sound way. The study being commissioned will lay the groundwork for governing who can dive, under what conditions, and how the area will be protected — turning an idea into a functioning, rule-bound public facility. Mayor Charalampos Koukianakis has signed off on the invitation.

Who is being invited to bid?

Under Greek public procurement rules, contracts below €30,000 can be awarded through a simplified direct process, where the contracting authority invites a specific professional to submit an offer. In this case, Apokoronas has approached Evangelos Kanakakis, a specialist based in the Chania area. A degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, together with active registration with the relevant professional body, is required.

Key details at a glance

  • Estimated contract value: €7,392.38 (VAT included)
  • Funding: Municipality's own budget
  • Contract duration: 8 months from signing
  • Submission deadline: August 10, 2026, 12:00 noon
  • Where to submit: Municipal offices of Apokoronas, Vrysses (Town Hall)
  • Award criterion: Lowest price

What must be submitted?

The offer must be delivered in person in a sealed envelope to the municipal registry. Required documents include the engineering degree, chamber registration certificate, tax and social security clearance certificates, a criminal record extract dated no more than three months before submission, and sworn declarations of eligibility.
