Summary

Greece's electricity grid operator DEDDIE has announced a series of planned power cuts across the Chania region between Monday, September 28 and Friday, October 2, 2026, to carry out essential maintenance work on the distribution network. Villages and neighbourhoods affected include Georgioupoli, Kournas, Kavros, Sirikari, Galatas, Chora Sfakion, Askyfou, parts of Nea Chora in Chania city, and several others. Outages will last between one and seven hours depending on the area — residents should plan accordingly and keep all power lines at a safe distance even if they appear de-energised.

Power Cuts Across the Chania Region: Full Schedule for September 28 – October 2, 2026

Residents across a wide stretch of the Chania region are being asked to prepare for planned electricity outages next week. Greece's grid operator DEDDIE is carrying out necessary maintenance on the distribution network, and has published a day-by-day schedule of affected areas covering villages in Apokoronas, Sfakia and Selino, as well as streets in Chania city.

If works are completed ahead of schedule, power will be restored earlier than the stated end time. However, DEDDIE stresses that all power lines and network components must be treated as live at all times — even lines lying on the ground may carry electricity and must never be touched or approached.

What to Do If You Are Affected

If your home, business or accommodation falls within one of the listed areas, it is worth taking a few simple steps before the outage begins:

  • Switch off or unplug sensitive electronics such as computers, TVs and kitchen appliances to protect them from any voltage surges when power is restored
  • If you rely on refrigerated medication or medical equipment that requires electricity, make alternative arrangements in advance
  • Do not carry out any electrical work in your property during the outage period — power may be restored without warning
  • Stay well clear of any power lines, whether overhead or on the ground
