All Apokoronas nurseries and preschools closed Thursday
Parents across Apokoronas will need to make alternative childcare arrangements on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as the municipality has ordered all of its early childhood facilities to close for the day in response to an approaching severe weather event.
What has been decided?
The Deputy Regional Governor of Chania, Nikos Kalogeris, first issued an order suspending all primary and secondary schools across the regional unit because of the expected bad weather. The Municipality of Apokoronas then extended that closure to cover all of its own preschool and early childhood services.
The following facilities will be closed on Thursday:
- All municipal nurseries of the Municipality of Apokoronas
- The infant nursery in Kalyves
Why was this decision taken?
The closure was ordered specifically to protect the safety of children, parents, and childcare staff. With severe weather conditions forecast, the municipality chose not to take any unnecessary risks.
