Apokoronas council meets March 31 with twelve agenda items
The Apokoronas municipal council will sit in regular session on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, starting at 6:00 p.m. in the council chamber. The session will be held in person and — as is standard practice — streamed live on the municipality's YouTube channel and recorded for the official minutes.
The twelve-item agenda spans infrastructure, finance, social services, and land-use issues.
What is on the agenda
Cooperation agreement with the Technical University of Crete
The council will be asked to approve a memorandum of understanding between the municipality and the Technical University of Crete (Polytechneio Kritis). No further details about the scope of the agreement are given in the published notice.
Technical works programme for 2026
Councillors will vote on the municipality's technical programme for 2026 — the document that sets out which infrastructure and construction projects are planned for the year ahead. Approval of this programme is a key step before individual projects can proceed.
Possible loan for road works
The council will consider whether to explore taking out a loan from the Deposits and Loans Fund to finance works on municipal and rural roads. If approved, this could open the way for improvements to the road network across the municipality.
Access permits for two businesses
Two businesses are seeking formal approval for vehicle entry and exit points onto public roads:
- Almirida Beach A.E., a tourism unit in the Vamos area
- Afoi Gypari O.E., a light industrial workshop in Asi Gonia
Road-cutting permit for digital infrastructure
The council will consider a permit to cut into road surface in connection with project "SYZEFXIS 11494", which relates to network connectivity works at the Apokoronas town hall.
Milk allowance paid in cash
Certain categories of public-sector employees are entitled to free milk as a workplace health measure. The council will vote to convert this entitlement to a cash payment for eligible municipal workers.
Property purchase in Vrysses
The council will consider a direct purchase of a property in the village of Vrysses. No further details are disclosed in the agenda notice.
Retiring old municipal vehicles
A dedicated committee has recommended that certain municipal vehicles be taken out of service. The council must formally approve their decommissioning.
Committee appointments for 2026
The council will appoint members to the various standing committees of the municipality for the current year.
Two new posts at the social food bank
The council will vote on hiring two staff members on twelve-month fixed-term contracts to run the Apokoronas Social Food Bank. The posts are funded through the EU co-financed "Crete 2021–2027" programme (project code OPS 6018481).
Forestry land and cadastral registration in Chania
At the request of a council member, the session will include a discussion on the classification of forest land and the ongoing cadastral registration process in the Chania regional unit. This issue affects many landowners in the wider area who face uncertainty about how their land is categorised.
How to follow the session
The meeting is public and will be broadcast live on the municipality's YouTube channel. The official invitation document is available to download:
