On Thursday, September 3, 2026, the village of Alikampos will become the centre of a significant historical commemoration, as local and regional authorities gather at the historic site of Klima Alikampos to mark the 131st anniversary of the start of the Metapoliteftiki Revolution.
A Moment in Cretan History
The Metapoliteftiki Revolution, which began on September 3, 1895, was a pivotal moment in the long struggle for Cretan autonomy and self-determination. The site of Klima Alikampos holds a special place in this history, making it the natural setting for this annual act of remembrance.
What to Expect at the Ceremony
The event begins at 6:30 PM and will follow a formal but accessible programme:
- Memorial prayer at the historic site

Following the official ceremony, a reception will be held at the Alikampos Cultural Centre, giving attendees a chance to gather informally and continue the spirit of the occasion.
Who Is Behind the Event?
The commemoration is jointly organised by three bodies:
- Region of Crete – Regional Unit of Chania
- Municipality of Apokoronas
- Alikampos Cultural Association "Archavli"
Who Should Attend?
The event is open to everyone. Residents of Apokoronas and the wider Chania area, as well as visitors with an interest in Cretan history, are all warmly welcome. The organisers have extended a personal invitation and expressed that the presence of the community would be especially meaningful.
