Greece's electricity distribution network operator DEDDIE has scheduled a series of planned power cuts across the Chania region between Saturday, May 23, and Saturday, May 30, 2026, to carry out maintenance work on the grid. Planned power cuts across the Chania region: full schedule

Residents of dozens of villages and neighbourhoods across the Chania area will experience planned electricity outages between Saturday, May 23, and Saturday, May 30, 2026. The cuts are being carried out by DEDDIE, the operator of Greece's electricity distribution network, to allow for essential maintenance work on the grid. Different areas are affected on different days, and outages last anywhere from two to seven hours.

Important safety warning

If maintenance work is completed ahead of schedule, power may be restored before the listed end time. However, this also means that no line should ever be assumed to be safe to touch. DEDDIE explicitly warns that all electrical installations and network components — including any cables lying on the ground — must be treated as live at all times. Approaching or touching them is prohibited and carries a serious risk of serious injury or death.

Therefore, for safety reasons, approaching conductors or other network components is prohibited even if they are found lying on the ground, as there is a serious risk of accident.
