Apokoronas Mayor calls time on online political disputes
Apokoronas Mayor Charalampos Koukianakis has made a firm public commitment: from now on, he will only answer questions, allegations, and complaints at official Municipal Council sessions — not on social media, not through public online exchanges.
What prompted this announcement?
In a press release dated August 25, 2026, Koukianakis described a pattern of fragmented online posts, selective quoting, and endless digital back-and-forth that he says serves no one — least of all the residents of Apokoronas. He drew a clear distinction between legitimate public scrutiny, which he says he welcomes and actively seeks out, and the kind of online noise that distorts rather than informs.
What does this mean for residents?
If you have a question, a complaint, or evidence of something you believe needs to be addressed, the mayor is asking you to:
- Submit your concern in writing to the Municipal Council of Apokoronas
- Attend the council meeting in person to hear the response and present your own arguments
- Engage in the full conversation — not just the parts that appear in someone else's social media post
A tradition of open council sessions
Koukianakis points out that Apokoronas has been live-streaming all Municipal Council sessions since 2014 — so any resident who cannot attend in person can still watch the full debate, hear every answer, and form their own opinion based on the complete picture, not a highlight reel.
The bigger picture
The mayor is clear that public oversight is not only acceptable but essential. Questions are a right. Complaints must be investigated. But those processes need to happen through proper channels, in a setting where the full truth can be heard — not through a medium where, as he puts it, everyone ends up keeping only what suits them.
Apokoronas, he says, has real problems and real needs that demand daily attention. A community locked in permanent political conflict cannot get that work done. His choice, as he frames it, is to protect social cohesion and restore dialogue that is genuinely useful — not to him personally, but to Apokoronas.
