Planned power outages across the Chania region: October 18–22, 2026
Residents across the Chania district — including many villages in the heart of Apokoronas — should prepare for a series of planned electricity outages next week. The network operator DEDDIE has announced the cuts to allow technicians to carry out essential maintenance work on the electricity grid. The outages are scheduled, not the result of a fault, and will affect dozens of communities over five consecutive days.
Why is the power being cut?
The interruptions are necessary for DEDDIE engineers to work safely on the network infrastructure. If the work finishes ahead of schedule, power may be restored earlier than the stated end time.

- Sunday, October 18, 09:00–14:00: Mournies — from N. Plastira Street to the junction with the Agia Marina road, through to Agios Nektarios Street, including all side streets.
- Sunday, October 18, 08:00–15:00: Chania city — Elyrou Street (SM Synka, Dourountakis Brothers, 12th Primary School), Lissou Street, Anagn. Gogoni Street from Café Frozen to the junction with Sof. Venizelou Street, all side streets, and Butcher Shop 108.
- Monday, October 19, 12:00–15:00: Alikampos, Krapi, Xerizambela Vamou, Kalamitsi Amygdalou (Vamos substation, Creta lime works), Kalamitsi Alexandrou, Maza, Chambatha, Piperakis quarry, Fones, Georgioupoli, Almyros, Mathes, Kavros up to Hotel Vantaris, and the south side of Kavros to Mpallarina.
- Monday, October 19, 08:00–15:00: Kyrtomado, Kato Gerani, and the entire Platanias area.
- Tuesday, October 20, 08:00–15:00: Astratigos, Afrata (Platanias municipality), and the municipal unit of Kolymvari.
- Wednesday, October 21, 08:00–15:00: The entire Kathianon area.
- Wednesday, October 21, 08:00–13:00: Tsikalaria — the area around Eu Zyn Care.
- Wednesday, October 21, 09:00–14:00: Skafi, Argastiri, and Tzangargiako in eastern Selino.
- Wednesday, October 21, 02:00–07:00: Stalos, Galatas (Panorama junction, Hotel Panorama, Creta Dream), Psathi, Agia Marina from Hotel Naïsidis to Lydia Corner, Agia Marina supermarket, Agia, Kyrtomado, TOEB Alikianou, Patelari irrigation works, OADYK Patelari, Vrysses Kydonias, Modi, Platanias, Kato Gerani, Lygides, Pervolia, Potistira, Nera Kritis, Varypetro, Myloniana, Voutsounaria, Mournies (Stroudakis, Kantilierakis, Makrygannakis, Nefroksenias dialysis centre).

Even during a scheduled outage, all power lines and network components must be treated as live at all times. Do not approach or touch any cables or electrical equipment, even if they appear to be lying on the ground. The risk of a serious accident is real.
