Planned Power Cuts Across the Chania Region: July 5–9, 2026
Residents across a wide stretch of the Chania region are being warned of planned electricity outages this week, as network operator DEDDIE carries out essential maintenance on the local distribution grid. The cuts affect urban neighbourhoods, rural villages, and even the remote island of Gavdos — with some areas losing power for up to seven and a half hours.

What You Should Know
These are planned outages, and DEDDIE notes that if work is completed ahead of schedule, power will be restored before the listed end time. However — and this is important — even during a scheduled cut, all power lines and network components must be treated as live. Do not approach overhead lines or any part of the electricity network, even if cables appear to have fallen to the ground. The risk of serious injury is real.
Anyone who relies on electrically powered medical equipment, or who runs a business with refrigerated stock, should plan ahead and make alternative arrangements for the duration of the outage in their area.
