Second olive fly spray campaign now under way
Olive growers across Apokoronas are being called on to act: Apokoronas Anaptikssiaki has launched the second round of bait spraying against the olive fly (Bactrocera oleae), a pest capable of destroying olive crops from the inside out if populations are not controlled before harvest.
Which villages are included?
The current campaign covers eleven villages in the municipality:
- Armeni
- Neo Chorio
- Machaiori
- Paidochori
- Kaina
- Vamos
- Kalamitsi Alexandrou
- Kalamitsi Amygdalou
- Vrysses
- Xirosterní
- Maza
What do olive growers need to do?
The key ask from the authorities is simple but important: make sure the spray teams can get to your olive trees. That means unlocking gates, clearing access tracks, or doing whatever else is needed to let the crews reach every part of your grove.
The reason matters: bait spraying only works when as much of the landscape as possible is treated at the same time. Isolated applications on individual plots offer far less protection. The more groves that are covered in a single sweep, the better the outcome for everyone's harvest.
