Apokoronas on Maximum Fire Alert — Thursday, August 27, 2026
Apokoronas Municipality is on its highest level of fire alert this Thursday, August 27, 2026. Acting on guidance from the Greek General Secretariat for Civil Protection, the municipality has been placed under a Red Code warning, corresponding to a fire danger rating of Very High – Level 4. Every available resource and member of personnel has been mobilised, and residents and visitors face sweeping restrictions for the entire day.
Who Is Affected
The alert covers the entire municipality of Apokoronas. A preventive ban is in force on entering, remaining in, or passing through any sensitive forested or rural areas — on foot or by vehicle. The Civil Protection service is urging everyone, whether a local resident, farmer, or tourist, to stay away from these zones and to avoid any action that could start a fire.
What Is Banned
Authorities are reminding the public that the following are strictly prohibited on days with this level of fire danger:
- Burning crop residues, grasslands, pastures, or similar vegetation
- Any open fire outdoors — for events of any kind, including religious, cultural, entertainment, or film production purposes
- Smoking beehives (using a bee smoker)
- Hot work that produces sparks, such as welding or cutting metal with an angle grinder
- Outdoor grills, barbecues, or any use of combustible fuel in the open air
- Sky Lanterns or any airborne balloon with a flame
- Fireworks or pyrotechnic products of any kind
What To Do If You See a Fire
Anyone who spots a fire should call the Fire Service immediately on 199 or the European emergency number 112, and give as precise a location as possible. Quick, accurate reporting can make a critical difference in how fast crews respond.
Penalties
Failure to comply with these restrictions carries serious administrative and criminal penalties. Enforcement is heightened during Red Code days.
