Maximum wildfire alert declared for Apokoronas on August 14, 2026
Residents and visitors in Apokoronas face the highest possible wildfire warning this Friday. The municipality's Civil Protection service has confirmed that the area is under a Red Code alert for August 14, 2026, as the General Secretariat for Civil Protection has forecast a Very High fire danger — the top level on a scale of four. All emergency personnel and equipment have been placed on full standby.
As part of the measures, access to sensitive fire-risk areas will be restricted: movement and parking of both people and vehicles in these zones is prohibited for the duration of the alert.
What is banned on August 14?
The following activities are strictly forbidden across the municipality:
- Burning of crop residues, grassland, pastures, or any other vegetation
- Any open fire outdoors — including fires for religious, cultural, entertainment, or film-production events
- Smoking in beehives using smoke devices
- Hot works that produce sparks, such as welding or metal cutting
- Outdoor grills and barbecues of any kind, using any fuel
- Sky lanterns or any airborne flying lanterns or balloons
- Fireworks or any pyrotechnic devices
Penalties for non-compliance
Breaking these rules carries serious consequences. Authorities will impose strict administrative fines and criminal penalties on anyone found in violation during a Red Code day.
