Apokoronas moves toward dive park with new feasibility study commission

Summary

Apokoronas municipality has commissioned an economic feasibility study to determine whether a dive park could become a viable tourism project for the area. The study, worth just over €6,571 including VAT, will be carried out by an appointed economist and must be completed within eight months of signing the contract. The sole invited bidder has until August 21, 2026 at 14:00 to submit a sealed offer to the municipality offices in Vrysses.

Apokoronas takes first step toward a dedicated dive park

The municipality of Apokoronas is exploring whether it could develop a dedicated dive park along its coastline — and has now taken a concrete step in that direction by commissioning a professional economic feasibility study.

The study will assess whether such a park is financially and operationally sustainable in the long term. If the results are positive, it could pave the way for an officially designated underwater area that draws divers and water sports enthusiasts to the region.

What the study involves

An economist has been directly invited to carry out the assessment, which falls under a streamlined procurement procedure for low-value contracts. The work covers an economic and technical analysis of the dive park concept, examining whether it can generate sufficient income and long-term viability for the municipality.

The study is expected to be delivered within eight months of the contract being signed, and is funded entirely from the municipality's own budget — no external grants are involved.
