New Metropolitan elected for Kydonia and Apokoronas
Archimandrite Titos Tampakakis has been elected as the new Metropolitan of Kydonia and Apokoronas, stepping into the leadership of one of Crete's most historically significant dioceses. The diocese covers the entire region of Apokoronas.
Who is the new Metropolitan?
Titos Tampakakis served as an Archimandrite prior to his election. The municipality of Apokoronas describes him as a figure of strong character, spirituality, and quiet but meaningful service — qualities it says inspire confidence among the local community.
The diocese and its role
The Metropolis of Kydonia and Apokoronas has long been regarded as a central institution in the life of the region, accompanying communities through historical hardships and serving as a point of social and spiritual cohesion across western Crete.
Municipality's response
The Apokoronas municipal authority has said it will cooperate with the new Metropolitan on initiatives focused on the public good. The statement is, at this stage, a formal welcome and expression of intent — no specific programmes or projects have been announced.
