Priests from across the region assemble in Kalyves
The Church of Saint Paraskevi in Kalyves hosted an unusual gathering on June 5, 2026: the first joint synod of all priests of the Metropolis of Kydonia and Apokoronas, presided over by Metropolitan Titos. Clergy travelled from every corner of the metropolitan district to attend — a gathering described by the organisers as unprecedented in scope.
According to the press release issued by the Apokoronas municipal authority, Metropolitan Titos spoke of love, cooperation and responsibility, and underlined the importance of solidarity and unity during difficult times. The assembly was presented as a living image of collective faith and shared commitment to serving local communities.
The synod had no legislative or administrative function. No specific decisions, resolutions, deadlines or practical measures were announced. The press release represents the official position of the Apokoronas municipal authority.
For the villages of Apokoronas, where the Orthodox Church traditionally plays a significant role in community life, the assembly marks what organisers describe as a moment of collective purpose — a reminder, in their words, that the strength of the community lies in solidarity and mutual respect.
